What is REDD/REDD+?

Originally defined by the United Nations, Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) programs are those that limit carbon emissions by preserving and in some cases reforesting the world’s rainforest. REDD+ (or REDD-plus) refers to "reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries" (emphasis added).
