Uphold Card Overview
The Uphold Card is accepted by more than 50 million merchants worldwide via the Mastercard network.
As a ‘true’ debit card, rather than a pre-loadable card, it’s far more widely accepted than many of its competitors, bringing a whole new level of utility to your Uphold account.
You can automatically convert any asset held with Uphold into fiat to spend on your card. What’s more, using your Uphold Card when traveling abroad will protect you from the punitive FX rates charged by banks - sometimes as high as 10%.
Last but not least: with the Uphold Card you’ll earn cash back rewards on all your purchases!
- Cash back rewards on all purchases - see website for latest!
- Add your card to Apple Pay or Google Pay!
- Attractive FX rates.
- Free virtual card.
- Instantly freeze/unfreeze your card within the app.
- Top-up your card using ANY of your assets!
- Instant spending alerts
- Analytics of your purchases, by type!
Our Uphold Card is available to Customers in the United Kingdom.
Starting January 8th, 2024, you'll earn a 1% cashback, paid out in GBP, on card purchases funded by a national currency balance.
Payout: The crypto rewards will be calculated at the end of each calendar month and added to your Uphold balance within 15 days thereafter. Payouts must bear a notional value of at least 1.00 GBP equivalent for the amount to be added to your Uphold balance. Otherwise, no money will be credited to your balance for that month, but the amount will be carried forward to the subsequent month.
You can see your updated rewards balance in the app, as well as accrued values, limits, etc.

Transaction Issues and Disputes
Check your transaction details in-app for more information.
If you think there’s been a mistake, contact cardsupport@uphold.com.
If you wish to dispute a transaction made with your Uphold Card, believe your statement or receipt has an error, or if you need more information about a transfer listed on the statement or receipt, please contact us as soon as you can by emailing us at cardsupport@uphold.com or by post at Optimus Card Services, PO Box 8534, London W1A 5AF.
We must hear from you within 60 days following the date on which the error first appeared in your transaction history (either on the Uphold App or sent to you via email or push notification).
Please:
- Tell us your name and User ID.
- Describe the error or the transfer you are unsure about, and explain as clearly as you can why you believe it is an error or why you need more information.
- Tell us the monetary value of the suspected error.
We will determine whether an error occurred within 10 business days after we hear from you and will correct any error promptly. If we need more time, however, we may take up to 45 days to investigate your complaint or question. If we decide to do this, we will credit your account within 10 business days for the amount you think is in error, so that you will have the use of the money during the time it takes us to complete our investigation. If we ask you to put your complaint or question in writing and we do not receive it within 10 business days, we may not credit your account.
For errors involving new accounts, point-of-sale, or foreign-initiated transactions, we may take up to 90 days to investigate your complaint or question. For new accounts, we may take up to 20 business days to credit your account for the amount you think is in error.
We will tell you the results within three business days after completing our investigation. If we decide that there was no error, we will send you a written explanation. You may ask for copies of the documents that we used in our investigation.
As a precaution, you should freeze your card on the Card settings menu while you investigate.
Just click on “Freeze card” and that’s it. While your card is frozen, no transactions will be allowed.
Also, you’ll be notified if someone attempts a transaction using your card while it is frozen. Please be aware that even the payments for any subscriptions you may have set up will fail if the card is frozen.
As soon as you notice an unrecognized transaction, please contact us at cardsupport@uphold.com so we can investigate further and help you the best way we can.
Some Gas Stations, as a precautionary measure, may hold an additional amount when you use the card. The excess amount should be refunded shortly after the transaction is complete.
Card Security
If you have a physical Uphold card, you can easily view your PIN in the app
- Go to your card settings.
- Tap "View PIN."
- Complete 2-factor authentication.
For security reasons, the PIN screen will automatically close after a few seconds. To change your PIN, visit an ATM.
Note: Virtual cards do not come with a PIN. However, if a merchant requires a PIN, you'll need an Uphold physical card to complete the transaction.
Report it in the Uphold app:
1 - Open your Uphold app.
2 - Tap the card tile to access your card.
3 - Press the Settings icon (top-right corner).
4 - Tap Report card as lost or stolen.
5 - Go through the prompts and Cancel the card
You can activate a new virtual card right after.
If you lost access to your app, contact us on +44 203 893 3228 so we freeze it for you. Note this is a dedicated line for reporting lost or stolen Uphold cards.
Freezing your card prevents any transactions from taking place. On top of it, you’ll be notified if someone attempts a transaction using your card.
1 - Open your Uphold app.
2 - Tap the card tile to access your card.
3 - Press the Settings icon (top-right corner).
4 - Toggle the "Freeze card" option.
You’ll see a lock if your card is frozen. To unlock, click on the toggle again and complete 2-factor authentication.
Please note that no payments will be allowed when the card is frozen, including subscriptions, if you have them.
