Verifying your identity is an easy, two minute process. It will help to secure your account, working as a verification method to keep your funds safe.
ID verification is required to set up a new account and for existing users wishing to unlock certain functionality such as sending money to a friend or withdrawing funds to a bank account.
To verify your identity, you must:
- Hold a valid government-issued photo ID (Passport, National ID card, or Driver’s license).
Note: We only accept IDs written in Latin, Cyrillic or Greek alphabet. The ID must be valid for at least 3 months.
- Make sure you are in a well-lit room with a plain background.
- Be ready to take a live selfie and photos of your ID (digital copies are not accepted and will fail causing you delay).
To start the verification process, follow these steps:
1 - Tap in the Transact pane, or on the blue banner that can be found on > Settings > Profile.

3 - Take a photo of the front and back of your ID.
All details must be readable. If your ID reads clearly in the preview window, click Readable, if not, click Retake.
|
4 - Take a live selfie.
Make sure you take the photo in a well-lit room where the light source is in front of you to prevent any shadows.
|
5 - Tap Done.
You should get a message soon confirming you've been verified. You can check your status on > Settings > Profile.

Tips for a successful submission |
- Take a clear picture of your valid photo ID, where every detail is readable and clear. Ensure the details on your ID match those on your Uphold account (legal name, no nicknames).
- Remove any masks, hats or sunglasses. (You can wear prescription glasses).
- Make sure your photo ID is valid for at least three more months.
- Photograph the entire doc, avoid any cutting off corners or text.
- If you’re having trouble with the camera on a desktop or laptop computer, try doing it through the Mobile App instead.
- If you make a mistake, refresh the page to restart the process. Do not attempt to complete the process if you know there’s a mistake as this will result in a temporary restriction until it can be reviewed manually.
- We don’t accept scanned or otherwise saved image files. This will fail and cause you delay.
- Please don't take a photo of a photo. This will fail and cause you delay. Your selfie needs to be "live".
- Make sure the light source is in front of you, not behind you, so your face is well lit.
- Face the camera and include your head and shoulders, like a passport or photo ID.
- Use a plain background.
