To comply with the Travel Rule, Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) in Europe must verify wallet ownership before allowing transfers to self-hosted (non-custodial) wallets.
Uphold has partnered with Notabene to provide a seamless verification process for you. Notabene offers different methods to confirm wallet ownership:
- Signature Proofs – this method allows you to sign an off-chain message using your wallet’s private key. This cryptographic signature confirms that you control the wallet where funds will be transferred.
- Microtransactions (Satoshi tests) – You’ll be required to send a small test transaction from the destination wallet within a set time window. This verifies that you have access to the wallet’s private key.
Each of these methods helps ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while allowing you to securely transfer your assets.
