What is Uphold Securities?
Uphold Securities is a registered broker-dealer that lets you buy and sell U.S. stocks and ETFs directly in the Uphold app. You can trade using USD or cryptocurrency, with no commissions.
Who can trade on Uphold Securities?
You can trade if you are at least 18 years old, have a verified Uphold account, and reside in a U.S. state where we operate. You also need a valid Social Security Number (SSN) or Tax Identification Number (TIN) that matches your account.
Note: Additional restrictions apply to Control Persons, Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), FINRA affiliates, and professional traders.
How do I open an account?
- Tap Invest now in the Equities section.
- Review and accept the Customer Agreement.
- Answer a few questions about yourself and your risk tolerance.
- Provide your personal details (employment, income, net worth).
- Optionally, add a "Trusted Contact."
Approval usually takes less than a minute. If it takes longer than 24 hours, contact Support.
Why do I need to answer personal questions?
Financial regulations require us to collect this information to verify your eligibility and understand your investment profile.
Why must my Social Security Number (SSN) be valid?
U.S. federal law requires that your SSN is valid and matches the name on your account to open a brokerage account. If there is a mismatch, you will not be able to complete the setup.
