What is the XRP/XLM unique address?
Both XRP (XRPL) and XLM (Stellar) are networks typically set up to operate using shared (pool) addresses, where a tag (for XRP) or memo (for XLM) to identify users. To make deposits simpler, Uphold now provides unique deposit addresses for each network. You'll have one dedicated address for receiving XRP and another for receiving XLM.
NOTE: Tags or memos still determine which card receives the funds. Changing your destination card updates only the tag or memo but not the address itself.
How can I see my unique address?
The same way you would for any other crypto deposit.
- On the Home Screen, tap “Deposit.”
- Select “Crypto network” under Crypto Transfer.
- Choose XRP (XRP Ledger) or XLM (Stellar).
- Tap “Show address” to display your crypto address, tag/memo, and QR code.
Can I send any token in the XRPL or Stellar networks to my unique addresses?
No. Your unique addresses only accepts their native assets (XRP or XLM).
Any other XRPL-based token (e.g., SOLO, RLUSD, CORE, USDC) or Stellar-based token (e.g. USDC, VELO, EURC, SHX) will be automatically rejected.
What happens if I forget or use an incorrect tag?
As long as you send the funds to your unique address, they’ll be automatically credited to your default card - your XRP card or your XLM card, respectively.
I still see the old deposit address, not a unique one, when attempting to deposit. Why?
This can happen for a couple of reasons:
- You might be using an older version of the app. Please update to the latest version to see your unique address.
- You may be trying to deposit a token instead of the native asset—for example, XRPL tokens (SOLO, RLUSD, CORE, USDC) or Stellar tokens (USDC, VELO, EURC, SHX) still use the pool address, not a unique XRP or XLM address.
Do I own the address?
No, Uphold retains control of the address, as it’s part of our custodial services. While it’s assigned specifically to you to make XRP or XLM deposits easier and more reliable, it’s still an Uphold address.
For non-custodial and/or assisted self-custody, please explore our Vault or Uphodl options.
I’m trying to send funds to my unique XRP address, but it’s failing. Why?
This can happen for a couple of reasons:
- The first deposit to your unique XRP/XLM address requires a minimum of 1 XRP or 1 XLM to activate it. If you send any less than this, the transaction will fail.
- The unique addresses are exclusive to receiving the native asset of their respective network. If you send any other asset, the transaction will not go through.
Can I still deposit using the old address and tag/memo?
Deposits using the old address and tag/memo are currently possible, but we highly recommend switching to your unique address.
The old format will be phased out soon, and an incorrect tag/memo may prevent your funds from being credited.
If that happens, please contact us for help.
